INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WORKSHOP (ILASW) 2024

INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WORKSHOP (ILASW) 2024

International Landscape Architecture Student Workshop (ILASW) is a biennial work program held by the Landscape Architecture Student Association (Himaskap). This program is an international workshop and seminar that lasts for six days. ILASW 2024 carries the theme
“Harmony in Hazards: Embracing Communities within Sustainable and Resilience Landscape” with a focus on case studies in disaster-prone areas.

The event will be held on September 9th-14th, 2024 and will be located in several areas in West Java. By focusing on case studies of vulnerable areas to natural disasters, the program aims to produce outcomes that can contribute to the sustainability of safer and more resilient environments. National collaboration is also enhanced through cooperation with various stakeholders, including local communities, local governments, and non-governmental organizations. In addition, international collaboration is strengthened through concrete experiences and cooperation between participants from different countries. The ILASW 2024 program plays an important role in honing and enhancing the abilities and skills needed to produce competent professionals in the field of landscape architecture. Therefore, this program should be implemented for its broader purpose and benefits.

Theme: “Harmony in Hazards: Embracing Communities within Sustainable and Resilience Landscape”

Natural disasters are unavoidable natural events that often cause great damage and losses, both material and non-material. The impact of a disaster depends on its type and severity, as well as factors such as community preparedness, resilience and ability to cope with emergency situations. Amid global climate change and rapid urbanization, disaster risks are increasing.

To minimize the impact of natural disasters, comprehensive mitigation measures are required. One relevant approach is resilient and sustainable landscape planning. By focusing on case studies of natural disaster-prone areas, programs such as ILASW 2024 can contribute to creating safer and more resilient landscapes. National and international collaboration is also key in meeting this challenge. Therefore, this program has an important role in honing the abilities and skills of landscape architecture students for a more sustainable future. Students from diverse cultural backgrounds will get the chance to come together, interact, share ideas, and, most importantly, have fun. Participants in the ILASW 2024 will be divided into teams, and the teams will get workshops and mentoring from academia and professionals to generate original and unique ideas.
