Bogor, Indonesia – August 6-7, 2025 – The Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University successfully hosted the 8th International Symposium of Sustainable Landscape Development (ISSLD) on August 6–7th, 2025. The event, themed “Regenerative Landscape”, brought together experts, academics, and practitioners from 6 countries to discuss strategies for restoring and revitalizing ecosystems in response to climate change and urban challenges.
The symposium opened on August 6th at the Toyib Hadiwijaya Auditorium, IPB University, with 93 presenters and participants from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and other countries. The event concluded on August 7th with a field excursion to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta.

In his keynote speech, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, Rector of IPB University, emphasized that regenerative landscapes go beyond sustainability. “They integrate nature-based solutions, technological innovation, and active community participation to create resilient, adaptive spaces for the future,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Suryo Wiyono, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, noted the strategic role of landscape architecture in addressing climate uncertainty. “Through collaborations like ISSLD, we strengthen both academic foundations and practical strategies to restore ecological balance and enhance community well-being,” he stated.
International speakers included Assoc. Prof. Alessandro Martinelli (IFLA’s Chair of the Education and Academic Affairs (EAA); Chinese Culture University, Taiwan) on Desakota regions as renewable energy innovation hubs; Prof. Noriko Akita (Chiba University, Japan) on community-based flood management; Prof. Nappy L. The plenary session was moderated by Prof. Beata Gawryszewska from Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS), Poland.

Scientific sessions were organized into four sub-themes: Ecology and Sustainability, Technology and Innovation, Socio-Cultural and Economic Aspects, and Design and Planning.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Akhmad Arifin Hadi, Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture, expressed appreciation to all contributors. “ISSLD 2025 demonstrates that regenerative landscapes are not just a theory—they are collaborative actions requiring academic rigor, community involvement, and policy support,” he said.
