The 4th Summer Course on Indonesia’s Tropical Landscape 2026 Successfully Held as an International Online Program


The Department of Landscape Architecture, IPB University, proudly announces the successful completion of The 4th Summer Course on Indonesia’s Tropical Landscape 2026, conducted fully online from 2 to 13 March 2026. Carrying the theme “Cultural Landscape: Explore Indonesia through its Cultural Landscapes!”, this international program served as a dynamic virtual platform for global academic exchange and collaboration.
Organized in collaboration with Chiba University (Japan) and Bulacan State University (Philippines), the program was delivered entirely through an online learning system, integrating self-paced modules and live interactive sessions via Zoom. This approach enabled participants from various parts of the world to actively engage without geographical limitations.
A total of 173 participants from diverse countries including Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sudan, Iraq, Egypt, China, and Afghanistan successfully took part in the program. They represented a broad range of academic institutions, including Bulacan State University, Chiba University, Diponegoro University, IPB University, Nusa Putra University, Riau University, Sumatra Institute of Technology, Udayana University, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur, Universitas Sam Ratulangi, Universitas Teknologi Malaysia, Universitas Tribhuwana Tunggadewi, University Al-Azhar Indonesia, Satya Wacana Christian University, University of Lampung, and the University of the Philippines Diliman, among others.


Throughout the program, participants explored a wide range of topics, including Introduction to Tropical Landscape, Historical Landscape, Cultural Landscape of an Agromaritime Country, World Heritage in Indonesia, the Nexus of Landscape, Biodiversity, and Culture, Landscape Planning for Cultural Sites, Site Analysis for Cultural Landscapes, and Landscape Design based on Indigenous Values.
As a fully online international course, this program successfully fostered cross-cultural understanding and academic interaction in a flexible and accessible learning environment. Participants gained valuable insights into the integration of cultural values, ecological perspectives, and sustainable landscape planning approaches.
The successful implementation of this online program reflects the strong commitment of the Department of Landscape Architecture, IPB University, together with its international partners, to advancing global education and promoting Indonesia’s cultural landscapes to a wider audience.
