Summer Course 2025

Welcome to the 3rd Summer Course on Indonesia’s Tropical Landscape!

The Summer Course on Indonesia’s Tropical Landscape is an annual event organized by the Department of Landscape Architecture, IPB University, in collaboration with the Graduate School of Horticulture, Chiba University. This program is part of the Landscape Architecture Department’s mission to enhance its “World Class University” achievement by inviting international students and speakers, expanding campus academic atmosphere, improving education quality, and building partnerships with top universities worldwide. This year, the summer course also collaborates with the Indonesian Society of Landscape Architects (ISLA/IALI) and the Indonesian Landscape Architecture Education Forum (FPALI).

With the theme “Sustainable and Resilient Coastal Landscape”, the 3rd Summer Course continues the success of the previous two years. This program will be held on February 12-20th 2025, immersed in 90 learning hours, equivalent to 2 academic credits from lectures, fieldwork, excursions, and cultural sharing. The goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s unique island landscapes, bridging theory with practical experience. Participants will explore three iconic destinations:

(1) The Thousand Islands, a collection of idyllic tropical islands showcasing Indonesia’s coastal biodiversity;
(2) Bogor Botanical Garden, a historic center of botanical research and conservation in Southeast Asia; and
(3) IPB University Campus, Indonesia’s green and most sustainable university.
